Spring Must-Have: Duster Coat

I'm so happy that spring has almost arrived. This Canadian gal is all too happy to kiss her winter wardrobe goodbye!

While shopping with a client recently, the topic of spring wardrobe essentials came up (a video on this will be up very shortly). I had pulled a gorgeous duster coat for her in a stunning rust colour (part of her ideal colour palette), and she asked me how or when she would wear it.

Duster jackets, to me, are an unsung wardrobe hero. I consider them an essential spring wardrobe basic because they can be styled so many ways! They really aren't talked about enough, in my opinion.

The reason I love these pieces so much is because they transition between being a fluid lightweight coat for outwear purposes, but also can be worn as a layering piece in your everyday wardrobe. Since they often have great movement to the fabric and aren't bulky like a traditional spring trench, they can easily replace your traditional cardigan or blazer in the spring.

I also find dusters to be fabulous because of their length. Since they run between knee to ankle length, they create an elegant, elongated silhouette that looks chic while creating a more elevated, expensive look to any outfit. Bonus is that they can be worn with pants, skirts, or even dresses from day to night.

The one I'm wearing I purchased some time ago, but still wear this item so much. I love the cream, a perfect neutral for spring! If you're someone that's looking for an extra punch to your outfit, a splash of colour in a lilac, pink, or bright navy would look beautiful too.

If you have a casual lifestyle, try styling a duster with jeans, graphic tee, and sneakers. Going to work? A blouse, pencil skirt and killer pumps will do the trick.
