France to Ban Ultra Thin Models: CTV News

Media everywhere today have been discussing France’s decision to potentially ban ultra-thin models from the runways and ad campaigns permanently saying that it’s a dangerous standard and expectation that’s being set for women everywhere.

Talks of having regular weigh-ins for models to ensure they have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of at least 18% is being considered. Any model that will be below the new health standard shall be dismissed. Any agent, agency or brand that uses a model that isn’t up to the health code will be fined 75,000 Euro’s and could face up to 6 months in prison.

Other countries such as Italy, Spain and Israel lead the way with laws similar to this in 2013.

We had the pleasure to being invited to talk about this issue on CTV National News today and discuss how this affects women and the fashion industry.
